Mongolia is a landlocked country in East Asia, with a population of 3 million people and a life expectancy at birth of 65 years (male) and 73 years (female). Mongolia has the lowest population density of any sovereign country; about 45% of the population live in the capital Ulaanbaatar (many in ger areas unconnected to public services), and much of the country is nomadic or semi-nomadic. The objectives of the Ministry of Health to improve coordination of health strategies and ensure access to care by all people are captured in a State Policy of Health 2017-2026, and development by the Ministry of Health and partners of a Health Sector Strategy 2019-2027 is underway. The UHC Partnership, which Mongolia joined in 2018, is helping the Ministry of Health with the planning, development and implementation of these strategies.
