Burkina Faso is a country in West Africa with a population of 16.4 million people and a life expectancy of 54 years for men and 57 years for women. The landlocked country enjoys a high level of commitment to improving its health systems and is one of the few countries where the health sector is very explicitly considered vital for the overall development of the country. Burkina Faso is currently implementing its National Health Plan 2011-2020 and developing a national strategy for health financing.
